Students from Spanish Major of School of Languages and Communication Studies Achieve Good Results in Preliminary Round of 2023 National Spanish Speech Contest

Recently, the preliminary round of the “Tell China, Connect with the World” in 2023 “SFLEP Cup” National Spanish Speech Contest was held, with 866 contestants from 78 universities across the country registering for the competition. After fierce competition, 10students from the Spanish major of the School of Language and Communication Studies achieved excellent results in the preliminary round guided by the Spanish professors.

Xu Shangru, winner of the first prize in the senior group, and Xia Rongxin, winner of the first prize in the junior group, have advanced into the national finals and will go to Shanghai to complete with outstanding contestants from across the country.

This speech contest is hosted by the Centro Conjunto de Investigación RAE-SISU and organized by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. Open to undergraduate students majoring in Spanish at regular higher education institutions nationwide, it stands as a large-scale, high-level competition within China's Spanish academic community. The contest aims to innovate the ideological and political education model within Spanish courses, promote the construction of specialized curriculum systems, build a high-end platform for Chinese Spanish students to exchange ideas, and lead the trend of Spanish talent cultivation in the new era. Through this competition, high-quality Spanish talents are selected who possess a broad international perspective, deep patriotic sentiment, solid humanistic qualities, and excellent speaking skills, capable of telling China’s stories well in Spanish and showcasing contemporary China on the international stage.
