The Department of European and Asian Languages
  The Department of European and Asian Languages, with 23 faculty members, offers courses in Japanese, Russian, German, French, Portuguese and Spanish languages as second foreign language courses for BJTU undergraduates and postgraduates. The department also has two undergraduate programs of Spanish Language and Portuguese Language.
   The undergraduate program in Spanish aims to help students develop an in-depth knowledge of the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures and practical cross-culture communication skills in Chinese, Spanish and English. The department offers courses in Spanish and English reading, speaking, listening and writing, as well as translation between Chinese and Spanish, Hispanic literatures and cultures. The Spanish program has established cooperation relations with universities in the Hispanic world to provide opportunities for both students and faculty to study abroad. The department prepares students to go into a variety of careers in government service, international enterprises, education, etc. or pursue their postgraduate studies in Spanish language research, translation studies, international business, and so on.
  The undergraduate program in Portuguese Language aims to cultivate practical and inter-disciplinary talents with strength in Portuguese language, who are supposed to possess moral, cultural and psychological qualities, grasp a wide range of engineering knowledge, economic and trade knowledge, and have the good cultural and cross-culture communication abilities. BJTU has established extensive cooperation with the prestigious universities in Portuguese-speaking countries such as Campinas State University of Brazil and the University of Minho of Portugal, and hired foreign some experts as part-time and full-time professors for long-term school teaching. All teachers of Portuguese bachelor program have overseas education experiences. At present, the Portuguese talents are in short supply in both domestic and foreign markets. These students studying in this program can not only choose to go to the Portuguese-speaking countries or regions to continue their further studies, but also look for jobs in Portuguese translation, Portuguese teaching,  management, research and other fields.
