Successful “Cloud Homecoming” for 2011 Graduates of Spanish Major, College of Languages and Communication

On May 14, 2022, the “Cloud Homecoming” event for the 2011 cohort alumni of the Spanish major in the Eurasian Languages Department, College of Languages and Communication, was held online via video conference. In 2011, the Spanish major at our college enrolled students for the first time. Eleven years later, 17 alumni of the 2011 class from home and abroad reunited virtually with all faculty members of the Spanish major online.

In their speeches, the alumni shared the current status and prospects of their respective career development. They expressed their willingness to support the academic and career development of fellow Spanish major alumni based on their own industries, as well as their best wishes for the future development of the Spanish major and the College of Languages and Communication.“Spanish is the golden key that opened the door to the international academic palace for me. With language as a fulcrum, we have the conditions to develop in depth in the specific professional fields we love.” Wu Xiongba, an alumni currently based in Spain, went to Barcelona for further studies after graduating in 2015, successively obtaining a master’s degree and a doctoral degree. This July, he will go to Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in Germany to engage in postdoctoral research in the field of cognitive neuroscience.

“We must always maintain our subjective initiative. The Spanish major has carried us to a broad world. As long as you keep forging ahead, you will step into the career direction you love and achieve development through the integration of different fields. I believe the younger students will surely shine brightly in the future.” After sharing her experiences, Wu Lei, an alumna working at the Latin American Center of Nuctech Company Limited, expressed her willingness to actively help current students develop internship and employment resources.

All professional teachers and alumni reflected on the past and talked about the future. They also analyzed the opportunities and challenges facing the development of the Spanish major. Meanwhile, they jointly discussed the work plan of “relying on alumni and serving alumni” to promote the common progress of the “Spanish family”. This “Cloud Homecoming” event kicked off a series of alumni homecoming activities for the Spanish major, and the “Cloud Homecoming” for the 2012 graduates will be held in the near future.
