2020-02-16 Faculty and Staff Party Members of the School of Languages and Communication Studies Strive to Be “Three Vanguards and Models”.

In the face of the complex epidemic situation and the challenges of online teaching, the Party Committee of the School of Languages and Communication Studies has thoroughly implemented the guiding principles of the Party Central Committee and the university. Each Party branch serves as a battle fortress in epidemic prevention and control, organizing and uniting every Party member to act as a standard-bearer and strive to be “Three Vanguards and Models”. United under the leadership of the Party branches, all faculty and staff are contributing to the efforts to win the battle against the epidemic. I. Striving to Be a Vanguard and Model in “Epidemic Prevention and Control” by Ensuring Comprehensive and Thorough Coverage. Faculty and staff Party members take the lead in implementing the daily “zero-reporting” system, promptly reporting their health status and location information. This includes reporting whether they or their close relatives exhibit symptoms such as fever, are suspected or confirmed cases, or are under quarantine; whether they have had contact with individuals from Hubei; and whether they are currently in Beijing or on campus. They resolutely ensure timely, accurate, and transparent reporting without omission or concealment. They take the lead in strictly adhering to the regulations set by government authorities at all levels and the university. They take the lead in implementing safety protection measures, actively reducing unnecessary outings, wearing masks when outside, strengthening personal protection, and effectively cutting off virus transmission pathways. They fulfill the “dual registration” requirement for Party members. All faculty and staff Party members in Beijing have completed community registration, with over 20 members volunteering for community epidemic prevention and control services within their capacity. They take the lead in complying with the requirements for faculty and staff returning to Beijing, diligently implementing the university’s prevention and control measures. Before returning, faculty and staff inform their Party branch of their travel plans (return time, train/flight number), report to the Party branch immediately upon arrival, and undergo self-isolation while conducting daily morning and evening temperature and health monitoring. When necessary, faculty and staff Party members proactively undertake tasks to ensure the smooth progress of the university’s and school’s prevention and control efforts. II. Striving to Be a Vanguard and Model in “Teaching and Education” by Ensuring Proactive Planning and Quality Assurance for Online Instruction. Taking the lead in implementing the “suspending classes without stopping learning” teaching requirements. Party branches fully communicated these requirements, and Party members proactively planned lessons by utilizing various online course platforms and the university's digital learning spaces. Taking the lead in preparing for “online teaching”. They actively drove the broader faculty to conduct pre-class testing and adjustments according to the deployment of the university and the school , ensuring thorough preparation. They established course-specific WeChat groups to include every enrolled student, verified students’ online learning access before classes began, and provided timely feedback to resolve issues. Taking the lead in guaranteeing the quality of online courses. They motivated faculty to strengthen their educational responsibilities, ensuring a “one-plan-per-course” approach to guarantee smooth delivery and maintained quality. They prepared contingency plans to swiftly switch to WeChat-based teaching if technical issues arose, ensuring uninterrupted instruction. Taking the lead in guiding graduation theses and supporting employment. Supervisors enhanced their sense of responsibility, adopting a “one-plan-per-student” approach for every graduate. They pioneered new working methods, strengthened thesis process management through multiple channels, paid attention to graduates’ mental well-being and job-seeking difficulties, and effectively advanced thesis guidance and employment support. Taking the lead in upholding professional ethics. In online teaching, Party member instructors took the initiative in guiding classroom discourse, spreading positive energy through their professional content, actively exploring the integration of ideological and political education into online courses, and fostering a positive online classroom atmosphere. III. Striving to Be a Vanguard and Model in “Publicity and Guidance” by Providing All-Round, Multi-Channel Care for Students. Taking the lead in guiding public opinion. This involves actively publicizing scientific protection knowledge, disseminating epidemic updates from official channels and authoritative media, refraining from believing or spreading rumors, stabilizing the emotions of teachers and students, and boosting their confidence.

Taking the lead in caring for students. Leveraging their own roles, they seek to understand the practical difficulties students face in their studies and daily lives, uniting with fellow faculty to devise solutions. Taking the lead in class development during this special period (for Party members serving as class advisors). They proactively check on students in their classes, with special focus on those in severely affected areas, conduct online class meetings, and guide students to mentally prepare for the new semester. Taking the lead in caring for students' health and family situations (for Party members serving as academic supervisors). They pay special attention to students in severely affected areas while also monitoring their academic progress, research, employment prospects, and graduation status. Taking the lead in providing administrative and service support (for staff Party members involved in student management). They ensure the smooth operation of teaching process management, research services, talent cultivation, and related security works, such as student administration, academics, research, employment, and graduation by working proactively.
