Academic Exchange | The 53rd BJTU Foreign Languages and Communication Studies Scholars Forum: “Methods and Experience in Applying for National Social Science Fund Projects” Lecture Successfully Held

On the evening of December 10, 2022, the 53rd “BJTU Foreign Languages and Communication Studies Scholars Forum” was successfully held online. The forum aimed to mobilize and facilitate the application process for the 2023 National Social Science Fund (NSSF) projects while providing a platform for experience sharing. The keynote speaker was Professor Tian Junwu, who has led major projects under the National Social Science Fund, the Ministry of Education’s Social Science Fund (Later Stage Funding Program), and the Beijing Social Science Key Projects. The forum, themed “Methods and Experience in Applying for National Social Science Fund Projects”, attracted over 300 faculty members and students from our school and other institutions. The event was hosted by Hao Yunhui, Vice Dean of the School of Languages and Communication Studies.

During the lecture, Professor Tian elaborated on three key aspects: the significance of the National Social Science Fund projects, the various categories of NSSF projects, and the strategies for applying to them. In particular, he provided a comprehensive and detailed explanation of how to prepare a successful application, covering topics such as refining research directions, accumulating preliminary research results, ensuring the value of the chosen topic, adopting interdisciplinary perspectives, staying attuned to academic trends, identifying breakthrough points in research, and crafting high-quality proposals that meet the expectations of review experts.

During the Q&A session, participating faculty members engaged in in-depth discussions with Professor Tian on various issues, including the writing of the application document, composition of project teams, differences in the focus areas between NSSF projects and Ministry of Education Social Science Fund projects, and the design of sub-projects.
