Among them, 22 participated in on-site defenses, while one conducted a video defense due to studying abroad on a public-funded program. The participating students presented their cases based on three aspects: innovative ability, social practice, and overall competence. Wang Gang, who has been recommended for postgraduate studies at Peking University, shared his diverse experiences in academics, research, club activities, and extracurricular life. Luo Yixiang, a Communication major from the Class of 2017, actively engaged in Student Union work while also dedicating himself to academic research, having published several academic papers. Du Yuexi, an English major from the Class of 2018, leveraged her language skills to participate in volunteer services and international organizations both on and off campus. Their impressive presentations garnered rounds of applause from the audience.

Ultimately, in accordance with the 2018–2019 Academic Year Special (National) Scholarship Evaluation Guidelines of the School of Languages and Communication Studies, and considering factors such as academic performance rankings, defense results, and majors, the following awards were determined: 5 National Scholarships, 1 Zhijin Scholarship, and 3 “Zhaokun” Scholarships. The results have been publicly announced.

Through the scholarship defense session, role models were established among the students, showcasing the excellence of the School’ s scholars. The achievements of the award-winning students inspired their peers. Xiao Kexin, who attended the defense session, remarked, “While excelling in their studies, they still manage to find time to pursue various activities, explore new opportunities, and enhance their abilities. I truly admire them!”
