Editor’s Note: Recently, the 12th Party Congress of Beijing Jiaotong University was successfully held, mapping out a new blueprint and defining new goals for the university’s new journey. The School of Languages and Communication Studies has thoroughly studied and implemented the spirit of the congress. It has comprehensively strengthened the Party building of the School, made systematic plans in talent cultivation, scientific research, discipline development, faculty team building, international exchanges, and social services and other fields. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, we will thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on education. We will keep firmly in mind the mission of nurturing talents for the Party and the country, continue to deepen reforms, strengthen the distinctive features of school operation, seize the momentum to pursue innovative development, and strive to write a new chapter in building a world-class university with distinctive characteristics! We have achieved the “Six Significant Improvements”. The details are as followed: 1. A significant improvement in talent cultivation capacity; 2. A significant improvement in the quality of team building; 3. A significant improvement in contributions to scientific research; 4. A significant improvement in the effectiveness of opening-up and cooperation; 5. A significant improvement in the efficiency of internal governance; 6. A significant improvement in the quality of Party building. We further implement the strategy of strengthening the school through talents to build a high-quality faculty team. We will deepen the reform of the education and teaching system and mechanisms, strengthen the ideological and political development as well as the professional ethics of teachers, and accelerate the construction the talent team. Over the past five years, the School of Languages and Communication Studies has continuously accumulated experience in talent cultivation, laying a solid foundation for further development. It has taken comprehensive measures to improve the overall quality of its faculty and staff. Young teachers who have joined the school in the past three years have been enrolled in the “Growth Navigation Program”. Policies have been formulated to encourage teachers to actively participate in academic exchanges and cooperation and enhance their teaching capabilities. Meanwhile, efforts have been made to strengthen the development of laboratories and administrative teams. The School has intensified the ideological and political education and professional ethics of its faculty and staff, which has been integrated into the whole-process assessment of talent team development, cadre training, selection and appointment. It also serves as a key part of the performance evaluation of the secretaries of the faculty and staff Party Branches. The School has strengthened the selection and promotion of advanced models of professional ethics, dug deep into the touching stories of frontline teachers, and organized publicity activities such as “Sharing My Story of Nurturing Talents” and the exhibition of outstanding deeds of advanced groups and individuals in the “All-Round Education Involving All Staff, the Entire Process, and All Aspects” initiative. Relying on Party Branches, it has achieved full coverage of warning education and enhanced the education on the Ten Guidelines for Teachers’ Professional Conduct. Thanks to these efforts, the overall quality of the faculty and staff has been remarkably improved. One teacher was admitted to Beijing Jiaotong University’s “Outstanding Hundred Talents Program” and two to the university’s “Young Elite Program”. A total of 22 persons have been awarded various university-level, department-level and provincial-level honors. Specifically, one teacher was rated as an Excellent Teacher of Beijing, one as a Model of Professional Ethics in Beijing, ten as Advanced Individuals in the “All-Round Education Involving All Staff, the Entire Process, and All Aspects” initiative, four as recipients of the Zhijin Teaching Award, and twelve as Excellent Teachers, “My Most Beloved Teachers” and winners of the Employment Contribution Award.
