School of Languages and Communication Studies Holds Special Exchange Session on Translation Studies for 2025 Research Project Applications

In the afternoon of January 10, 2025, the School of Languages and Communication Studies held a special exchange session on research project applications in translation studies in Room 816, Xiyuan West Building. The event featured presentations by Professor Lu Mingyu and Professor Hou Jie, both specializing in translation studies at the School. Nearly ten mid-career and young faculty members in translation studies attended the session, which was presided over by Vice Dean Hao Yunhui.

On the afternoon of January 10, 2025, the School of Languages and Communication Studies held a special exchange session on research project applications in translation studies in Room 816, Xiyuan West Building. The event featured presentations by Professor Lu Mingyu and Professor Hou Jie, both specializing in translation studies at the School. Nearly ten mid-career and young faculty members in translation studies attended the session, which was presided over by Vice Dean Hao Yunhui.

Professor Lu Mingyu shared her experience in presiding over multiple projects, including Beijing Municipal Social Science Fund Projects, Ministry of Education Social Science Projects, and National Social Science Fund Projects. Using her own academic research trajectory as a roadmap, she exchanged views with young faculty members on how to base research on personal academic interests, expand the dimensions of research questions, and refine project innovations. She emphasized that the key to successful project applications lies in deep expertise in the field, mature thinking, and persuasive cumulative achievements.

Based on the awarded topics in translation studies under the National Social Science Fund from 2022 to 2024, Professor Hou Jie outlined the hot topics and directions in recently funded translation studies projects and analyzed key review points one by one. Using successful and unsuccessful project proposals as examples, he provided a detailed explanation of the key components of the project argumentation document for National Social Science Fund applications. He thoroughly analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of the two proposals and generously shared his extensive experience in the application and implementation of research projects. He encouraged everyone to strengthen their confidence in project applications, actively communicate with relevant parties during the application process, and continuously improve the quality of their proposals.

The excellent presentations by the two professors sparked enthusiastic responses from the attending faculty. The young faculty members engaged in in-depth and productive discussions with the two professors on key issues such as the scope and depth of their intended project topics and the alignment of their topics with current trends.

In the concluding session, Vice Dean Hao Yunhui expressed sincere gratitude to the two professors for their selfless sharing and their long-standing concern for the growth of young faculty at the School. He pointed out that this exchange session, focusing on translation studies, provided precise academic guidance for young faculty in this field and served as an important part of the School's comprehensive launch of a series of mentoring activities for the 2025 research project applications. The School will further strengthen the cohesion of the translation studies team and promote disciplinary development.
