On April 12, Wang Wei, Director of the School Laboratory Safety Management Office, and Yuan Sicheng, Deputy Director, visited Tangshan Research Institute to inspect and guide laboratory safety management work. Wang Dayong, Director of Tangshan Research Institute, and Dong Jingzhu, Vice Director, attended the meeting and accompanied the inspection.

Wang Wei first listened to a report by Guan Jianguo, Director of the Security Department, on the operation and safety management of the Institute’s laboratories. He affirmed the safety management work at Tangshan Research Institute and, based on the Institute’s actual situation, provided specific requirements on laboratory operation mechanisms and responsibility divisions, laboratory safety risk assessment and classification, and the improvement of management team expertise and cohesion. He also offered suggestions on the Institute’s laboratory safety planning and development positioning. Wang Wei addressed questions raised by teachers regarding laboratory safety education and training, informatization of safety management, and personnel access management, providing solutions to these pain points and challenges.

Wang Dayong, on behalf of the Institute, welcomed the Laboratory Safety Management Office’s inspection and guidance. He emphasized that Tangshan Research Institute attaches great importance to laboratory safety management. As the number of relocated laboratories increases, laboratory safety risks grow and management becomes more complex, requiring strong support and guidance from the School Laboratory Safety Management Office. He expressed the hope that both sides would closely cooperate, implement graded and hierarchical management responsibilities, integrate the Institute into the university’s laboratory safety management system, eliminate safety hazards at the source, and ensure “zero accidents” in laboratories.

The inspection focused on laboratory renovation and construction, facilities and equipment, fire safety, storage and use of hazardous chemicals, disposal of hazardous waste, and electrical safety. Wang Wei and his team identified issues in laboratory safety management and provided suggestions for solutions.

Tangshan Research Institute will implement the valuable recommendations, strengthen accountability, enhance risk awareness, establish bottom-line thinking, actively rectify laboratory safety issues, improve institutional mechanisms, conduct special inspections on laboratory safety, promptly identify and resolve hazards, and continuously enhance laboratory safety management, providing a safer and more reliable experimental environment for faculty and students.

Relevant staff from the Science and Technology Development Department, Logistics Support Department, and Security Department participated in the above activities.
