Faculty from the Department of English Language Teaching Achieve Outstanding Results in the 16th SFLEP National Foreign Language Teaching Contest

From June 7 to 8, 2025, the Beijing Division semi-finals and Finals (College English Category) of the 16th SFLEP National Foreign Language Teaching Contest, along with the award ceremony, were held at Beijing Jiaotong University. The teaching contest was guided by the Higher Education Department of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, organized by Beijing Association of Higher Education and Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, co-organized by the College English Research Branch of the Beijing Association of Higher Education and the Beijing College English Education Development Center, and hosted by Beijing Jiaotong University. To fully leverage the exemplary and leading role of teaching contests in promoting instruction and research, the Department of English Language Teaching attached great importance to the event, meticulously organized the participation, and selected outstanding teachers to compete. After intense competition, our university's teachers, Lei Yu (Comprehensive English Category) and Li Lianghui (Audio-Visual & Speaking Category), stood out in both the semi-finals and finals with their solid teaching skills, innovative instructional design, and seamless integration of ideological and political education. They were awarded the Second Prize in the Comprehensive English Category and the Audio-Visual & Speaking Category, respectively.

Lei Yu, taking the thematic unit "Fame and Success" from An Integrated English Course as an example, employed diverse teaching methods such as blended learning and group project collaboration. Through step-by-step close reading of the text, she guided students to master the application and expressive functions of various rhetorical devices, cultivating in students a rational attitude towards fame in the multimedia era.

Li Lianghui, using the thematic unit "Science and Technology" from An Advanced Video Course as an example, utilized multiple approaches including task-based methods and blended teaching platforms. While enhancing students' language application skills, she effectively fostered their awareness of ethics in science and technology and their sense of responsibility for innovation.
