On the afternoon of November 28, 2022, Liu Kai, a member of the university’s publicity team for the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and Associate Dean and Associate Professor of the School of Languages and Communication Studies, delivered a thematic lecture to the Schools of Electronic and Information Engineering & Languages and Communication Studies. The lecture, titled “Strengthening the Foundation of Cultural Confidence and Self-Reliance, Voicing the Striving Power of National Rejuvenation”, was attended by faculty and student Party members from both schools via Tencent Meeting. The session also served as a thematic study for the theoretical learning centers of the Party committees of both schools. The lecture was presided over by Zhao Lan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Electronic and Information Engineering.

During the lecture, Associate Dean Liu Kai first interpreted the profound connotations of the term “culture” as highlighted in the report of the 20th CPC National Congress. He also explored why and how we should advance cultural confidence and self-reliance. He emphasized that cultural confidence and self-reliance are crucial to the nation’s overarching goals, the Party’s development, and addressing the people’s aspirations. Promoting cultural confidence and self-reliance reflects the Party’s historical responsibility. He pointed out that we must base our efforts on China’s realities, amplify the voice of Chinese academia, adhere to the Chinese path, and maintain local confidence. He also cautioned against the two extremes of cultural inferiority and cultural arrogance. Additionally, he urged the teaching faculty to uphold the noble pursuit of fostering virtue and cultivating talent.

In conclusion, Secretary Zhao Lan summarized and highly commended Associate Dean Liu Kai’s lecture. She noted that the session not only deepened the understanding of “cultural confidence and self-reliance” as outlined in the report of the 20th CPC National Congress among attending faculty and student Party members but also reinforced their sense of mission and responsibility. She emphasized the importance of striving to implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress in practical work and acknowledged the actionable suggestions put forward by Associate Dean Liu Kai, tailored to the disciplinary characteristics of both schools.
