Beijing Jiaotong University School of Languages and Communication Studies Visits FLTRP to Strengthen Talent Development and Teaching Innovation [2025-09-02]

On the morning of September 1, 2025, a delegation from the School of Languages and Communication Studies at Beijing Jiaotong University, led by Party Secretary Sun Wenbo, visited Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press Co., Ltd. (FLTRP) and its digital arm, Beijing Waiyan Online Digital Technology Co., Ltd. The visit combined a special initiative to expand graduate employment opportunities with in-depth exchanges on the digital transformation of foreign language teaching. The discussions focused on broadening employment channels for graduates and exploring innovative cooperation in textbook development, talent cultivation, and digital-intelligent teaching models, aiming to achieve complementary resources and collaborative development between the university and the enterprise.

The meeting, held at Waiyan Online's Zijinshan Conference Room, opened with a welcome address by Jiang Yilei, Vice President of Waiyan Online and General Manager of its Higher Education Division. He emphasized FLTRP's long-term commitment to advancing the professionalism, digitization, and internationalization of foreign language education, and expressed interest in deepening collaboration with universities to jointly address the evolving challenges and opportunities in the field.

In his remarks, Sun Wenbo underlined the dual purpose of the visit: to implement national policies on graduate employment by exploring more job opportunities, and to actively drive the transformation of foreign language education through the adoption of digital teaching models. He acknowledged FLTRP and Waiyan Online as leaders in the sector, whose expertise in textbook development, smart teaching platforms, and global talent cultivation offers valuable insights for enhancing BJTU's foreign language programs and public English teaching capacity.

During the thematic discussion, Sun Liyuan, Deputy Director of the Teaching Support Department under FLTRP's Higher English Education Publishing Branch, presented a comprehensive overview of the higher English education support system. She highlighted how textbook compilation, resource integration, and teacher development services are shifting from traditional instruction toward a digital-enabled, competency-based approach.

Wei Yafei, Senior Marketing Director of Waiyan Online's Higher Education Business Unit, introduced the Unipus smart teaching platform. Powered by AI and big data, Unipus facilitates blended learning, personalized study, and process-based evaluation—providing strong technical support for the digital upgrade of foreign language education.

Zhang Xinyue, National Talent Certification Specialist at FLTRP's Higher Education Marketing Center, elaborated on how the National Talent Certification (Guocai Exam) and related curricula help bridge the gap between university education and corporate needs, strengthening students' international competence.

In closing, Secretary Sun Wenbo noted that the dialogue had not only opened new pathways for expanding employment resources but also inspired fresh ideas for disciplinary transformation and pedagogical innovation. The School will actively incorporate high-quality industrial resources and expertise to optimize its talent development framework and improve students' overall competency and employability.

The delegation also included Wen Yingchun, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice Dean; Hao Yunhui, Vice Dean; Wang Jianrong, Director of the Department of English Language Teaching; Lu Qiang, Director of the Student Affairs Office; and Fan Shucheng, Director of the Experimental Teaching Center. The event concluded with a group photo, marking a concrete step in the collaboration between Beijing Jiaotong University and FLTRP to jointly promote employment and teaching reform.
