On the morning of March 30, 2020, President Wang Jiaqiong, along with Vice Presidents Gao Yan and Yan Xuedong, and University Office Director Yao Nianlong, visited the School of Languages and Communication Studies for a research visit. President Wang Jiaqiong conveyed the university's regards to the faculty and students of the School and inquired about the progress of the School's various tasks during the pandemic prevention and control period, as well as the advancement of its key annual priorities. Members of the School leadership team attended the symposium.

Wang Hongying, Party Secretary of the School, on behalf of the leadership team, welcomed President Wang and the delegation. She provided a comprehensive report on the implementation of the School's work across all fronts during the pandemic and its key tasks and challenges for 2020. Secretary Wang detailed the basic situation regarding information reporting and the status of faculty and students both within and outside China during the pandemic. She emphasized the implementation of undergraduate and postgraduate public foreign language and specialized course teaching under the "Classes Suspended, Learning Continues" requirement, as well as the progress in student recruitment and graduate employment. Subsequently, she delivered a dedicated report on the School's key priorities for 2020. Starting from the principle of ensuring Party leadership runs through the entire process of running the School and fulfilling the fundamental task of fostering virtue and cultivating talents, Secretary Wang analyzed the completion status of the School's 13th Five-Year Plan and the initiation of its 14th Five-Year Plan. She highlighted the focus on developing a top-level design and plan for the School's overall development and discipline construction. At the implementation level, she emphasized the coordinated planning, main focal points, key links, and important measures for the School's talent cultivation work under the framework of implementing the university's "Four Comprehensive Access" talent cultivation model. She also introduced the School's considerations and plans regarding faculty development, international cooperation and exchange, supporting the "Double World-Class Project" initiative, and comprehensive reform.

After listening to the report, President Wang Jiaqiong fully affirmed the work of the School. He required the School to clearly define the development direction of its two disciplines during the 14th Five-Year Plan period to achieve "differentiated development". He emphasized the need for thorough research and consideration of opinions from faculty and students, planning degree programs development and teaching work from a long-term development perspective, and deepening and supplementing efforts at the School level in coordination with the university's next steps in establishing a categorized evaluation system. Vice President Gao Yan acknowledged the School's pandemic prevention work and the drive of its leadership team. She emphasized the need to strengthen professional positioning and the distinctive features of talent cultivation to better meet societal demands. Vice President Yan Xuedong provided opinions and suggestions for the School's next phase of supply-side reform regarding the intersection and integration of disciplines, public English teaching reform, support for the "Double World-Class Project" initiative, the direction of disciplinary development, and the construction of "first-class majors" and "top-quality courses."

Moving forward, the School will continue to focus on the requirements of "advancing reform, strengthening foundations, enhancing substance, and promoting development." It will unite and lead all faculty and students, pool efforts, and steadfastly advance the implementation of various key tasks to achieve new progress in the School's development.
