Department of European and Asian Languages of the School of Languages and Communication Studies Conducts Research on High-Quality Party Building Leading First-Class Major Construction at the School of Spanish and Portuguese of Beijing Foreign Studies University. On May 22nd, the Department of European and Asian Languages of the School of Languages and Communication Studies went to the School of Spanish and Portuguese of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) to conduct research and learning on the work of high-quality Party building leading first-class major construction. Sun Mei, secretary of the General Party Branch of the School of Spanish and Portuguese of BFSU, Chang Fuliang, dean of the School, Li Ziying, vice dean of the School, Shi Qing, director of the Spanish Department, and Zhang Fangfang, director of the Department of Portuguese and secretary of the Teachers’ Party Branch, attended the meeting. Also present were Tong Yawei, director of the Department of European and Asian Languages and secretary of the Party Branch of the School of Languages and Communication Studies, Liang Jing, head of Spanish major, Zhang Gong, head of the Portuguese major, Li Bei’er, deputy secretary of the Party Branch and member of the Propaganda Committee, Zhu Mingshan, member of the Organization Committee and Zhao Shu, member of the Discipline Inspection Committee. Tong Yawei first conveyed the sincere greetings on behalf of the School of Languages and Communication Studies to the School of Spanish and Portuguese of BFSU. In 2022, the Spanish major of our university launched the construction of a national first-class undergraduate major, and the Portuguese major initiated the construction of a Beijing municipal first-class undergraduate major. The construction of first-class majors is a systematic project that requires uniting all teachers and students of the majors to form the greatest synergy and comprehensively improve the quality of talent cultivation. Faced with the construction tasks, how to further give play to the fighting fortress role of grassroots Party organizations in pragmatic work and effective implementation is the top priority of this research. Secretary Sun Mei extended a warm welcome to the research group from Beijing Jiaotong University. She noted that the research group is centered on the Party Branch Committee of the Department of European and Asian Languages, which reflects the work idea of Party building leading the central work and promoting the construction of first-class majors. For many years, under the leadership of the university Party Committee, the General Party Branch of the School of Spanish and Portuguese has been committed to promoting the development of the school with vigorous and concrete efforts. Combining the new requirements and new situations of the development of Spanish and Portuguese majors, it has formed some useful work experience and is willing to share and exchange with the research group. Dean Chang Fuliang congratulated the Spanish and Portuguese majors of Beijing Jiaotong University for standing out in the competition and embarking on the path of first-class major construction. At present, the cause of Spanish and Portuguese education in China is developing gratifyingly, with more than 100 universities nationwide competing to cultivate Spanish and Portuguese talents. However, the problem of homogenization in talent cultivation is relatively prominent, and there is a lack of training models that are deeply aligned with industry needs and local needs. Beijing Jiaotong University is a national key university featuring transportation science and technology. If the Spanish and Portuguese majors of Beijing Jiaotong University can design talent training models in combination with the needs of the transportation industry, they will form an irreplaceable professional advantage among other universities. Tong Yawei stated that since the establishment of the Spanish and Portuguese majors at Beijing Jiaotong University, they have shouldered the glorious mission of supporting China’s rail transit “going global”. Meanwhile, we have taken “telling China's transportation stories and Xiong’an New Area stories well in Spanish and Portuguese” as an important goal of talent cultivation, striving to contribute to the construction of Beijing Jiaotong University into a world-class university with distinctive characteristics and the development of China’s Spanish and Portuguese education. At the research meeting, vice dean Li Ziying put forward valuable suggestions on improving the scientific research capabilities of teachers in Spanish and Portuguese majors. The two parties conducted in-depth exchanges on topics such as the construction of curriculum ideology and politics in Spanish and Portuguese majors, ideas for building professional characteristics, the revision of the 2024 version of professional training programs, the sharing of professional internship and employment information, the construction of the second classroom for Spanish and Portuguese, and the cultivation of teaching reform and scientific research achievements.
