Recently, entrusted by China Railway Container Transport Co., Ltd. (CRCT), our college has launched an online English training program for employees of the company’s headquarters and its affiliated units nationwide. The program lasts for 5 months with a total of 160 class hours, aiming to improve the English listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities in foreign trade and logistics among key post personnel of the company, so as to meet the needs of international exchanges in work practical work.

 China Railway Container Transport Co., Ltd. is a large state-owned container transportation enterprise affiliated to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. It serves as the unified operation and service platform for China-Europe Railway Express under China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. and also acts as the secretariat of the China-Europe Railway Express Transport Coordination Committee. The company has always aimed to build a world-class modern logistics enterprise and actively promoted the construction of three major brands: China-Europe Railway Express, multimodal transport, and container management and maintenance.

 On the morning of May 11^th, the CRCT English Training Program was officially launched. Chang Yubo, Director of the Human Resources Department of CRCT, extended sincere gratitude to the College of Languages and Communication and the training team in his speech, and also expressed earnest expectations for the trainees. Wang Jianrong, Director of the College English Teaching Department of the College of Languages and Communication, elaborated on the teaching team, curriculum arrangement, teaching plan and assessment standards, and delivered an inspiring opening mobilization speech to the trainees.

 The training mainly focuses on international logistics and international trade, with language knowledge, business practices, cross-cultural communication as the core teaching content. It covers five skill training dimensions — listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation —aiming to enhance participants’ English application and international business communication abilities in practical work, enabling them to better carry out international trade practices.

 The reading and writing class in the morning was taught by Teacher Ai Wei. The course kicked off with self-introductions from all participants.. The main content was English for international freight forwarding and logistics. Teacher Ai led the participants to learn professional vocabulary and improve their reading and output abilities. Meanwhile, multiple interactive segments such as Q&A, interviews and sight translation were set up to boost classroom participation. Under Teacher Ai’s patient guidance, the participants who has been away from campus life for a long time quickly immersed themselves into the classroom interaction.

 After adjusting to the rhythm through the morning reading and writing session, the participants gradually got accustomed to the class pace and showed greater enthusiasm in the afternoon listening and speaking class taught by foreign teacher Kyle. Focusing on daily workplace conversations—including job interviews and social interactions — Kyle kicked off his first class with an enthusiastic self-introduction and encouraged students who had not spoken English for a long time to show themselves boldly. His humor quickly livened up the classroom atmosphere and left a deep impression on the participants.

 With the careful explanation of the teachers and the active cooperation of the students, the first week of the courses concluded successfully. All participants showed a serious learning attitude and high learning enthusiasm. It is believed that they will make greater progress in the subsequent courses. Student Huang from the Shanghai Branch said: “At first, I was quite nervous about attending the training course, fearing that I couldn’t keep up. But the class was well-paced, which completely eliminated my nervousness. I gained a lot after one class.”

 The launch of this training program is attributed to the Institute of China-Foreign People-to-People Exchange in the Transportation Industry, which was established by the College of Languages and Communication in 2021. Leveraging on the university’s professional advantages in the transportation industry and the college’s disciplinary characteristics of “foreign languages + communication”, the program— by mobilizing excellent faculty and teaching resources—not only helps serve national strategies such as the “Belt and Road Initiative” and “China-Europe Railway Express” and enhances the company’s competitiveness in foreign trade, but also helps clarify the college’s development direction, optimize the talent training system, promote the improvement of teaching quality, and better serve the university’s “Double First-Class” construction.
