2020-03-05 Fighting the Pandemic, Carrying Forward the Lei Feng Spirit – Party Members of the School of Languages and Communication Studies in Action.

“I am a Party member, I step up first!” Facing the pandemic, faculty and student Party members of the School of Languages and Communication Studies stepped forward without hesitation. They worked diligently on all fronts of the epidemic prevention and control efforts—whether at the university or in their communities—fully demonstrating the vanguard and exemplary role of Party members. As the 57th Lei Feng Day approaches, and in order to win this battle against the pandemic, sound the call to action, and build a formidable force at the grassroots level, let us see how the Party members of the School of Languages and Communication Studies carry forward the Lei Feng Spirit and rise to meet the challenge of the epidemic! The epidemic is an order, prevention and control a responsibility. In the face of the epidemic, Party members—both faculty and students—of the School of Languages and Communication Studies have kept their mission firmly in mind, taken the lead on the front lines, and built a solid barrier against the epidemic through concrete actions. Fulfilling Duty in the Ordinary. Every morning, the first message that appears in the departmental group chats is invariably a greeting from the Party branch secretary: “To effectively fight the battle against the epidemic, please begin today’s zero-case report...” From the very start of the pandemic prevention efforts, the Party Committee of the School made it clear that faculty Party branch secretaries serve as the first point of responsibility for epidemic control within their respective departments. Every Party cadre has conscientiously fulfilled their duties, carefully monitoring the status of each faculty member. In doing so, they have transformed every branch into a stronghold for pandemic prevention, educational instruction, and public awarenessguiding Party members to strive toward becoming three types of exemplary models. Where There Is Need, There Are Party Members. During the fight against the pandemic, all faculty Party members of the School residing in Beijing completed the dual community registration for pandemic response. A number of Party members also took part in volunteer services such as community duty, epidemic prevention publicity, and vegetable distribution. Party members, both faculty and students, actively contributed donations, raising a total of 27,888.4 yuan to date. Of this amount, 10,450.4 yuan was donated through Party organizations, while 17,438 yuan was contributed via various social organizations. The Undergraduate Party Branch launched the BJTU Public Service Initiative: Online Tutoring Program for Pandemic Response, providing free subject tutoring and academic support to children of frontline workers nationwide. This allows those dedicated to epidemic control to focus on their duties without concern for their children’s learning. Embodying the Nail’s Tenacity. While the epidemic delayed the start of the school semester, it could not dampen teachers’ passion for teaching. Leading Party-member faculty took the initiative in guiding their departmental colleagues to adapt proactively to online teaching tasks. With the determined focus and dedicated approach emblematic of driving in a nail, they overcame numerous challenges of virtual instruction, ensuring the successful launch of 106 courses. Facing the epidemic with composure and deep reflection, Party member faculty from our School published an article titled “Online Video Education Has Great Potential in the Special Period of Epidemic Prevention and Control” in Guangming Daily, offering suggestions for ensuring “Classes Suspended but Learning Continues”.
