Faculty Delegation from School of Languages and Communication Studies Visits School of Humanities, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications

On the morning of April 23, 2025, a delegation from the School of Languages and Communication Studies, Beijing Jiaotong University visited the School of Humanities at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) for a research exchange. The delegation included Sun Wenbo, Secretary of the School's Party Committee; Hao Yunhui, Vice Dean; Wang Jianrong, Director of the English Language Teaching Department; Zhang Xiaohan, Secretary of the Party Branch of the European and Asian Languages Department; and Feng Lei, Associate Chair of the Department of English. They were received by Zheng Chunping, Vice Dean (presiding over the work) of the School of Humanities at BUPT, along with Yang Jingpeng, Chair of the Department of English; Wang Haibo, Director of the Language Experiment Teaching Center; and foreign language curriculum leaders Xia Zengyan, Xu Ke, Mu Jie, and Yuan Renqing.

The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including Party building integration, optimization and transformation of academic programs, the role of college English in supporting "Double First-Class" university initiatives, digital-intelligent empowerment in foreign language teaching, organized research, and faculty evaluation mechanisms.

Zheng Chunping provided a comprehensive overview of the School of Humanities at BUPT, covering aspects such as Party building, multidimensional education, talent cultivation, research organization, and external cooperation. She emphasized that integrating ideological and political education into courses is key to achieving genuine integration of Party building with academic work and promoting the substantive development of foreign language disciplines. Proactively responding to national and societal needs while actively optimizing and upgrading academic programs, she noted, is essential for the growth of foreign language studies. The language programs at the School of Humanities focus on highlighting characteristics of information technology, establishing a "Language Intelligence Experimental Class", and building a comprehensive career planning education system, all of which have yielded significant results. College English teaching continues to emphasize digital-intelligent empowerment and the cultivation of global competence, further refining its distinctive contributions to the "Double First-Class" initiative. Zheng also shared insights on how digital education drives improvements in teaching and research outcomes, the integration of teaching and research, and organized research.

Xia Zengyan shared insights on the curriculum design for graduate English, collaboration between language instructors and specialized supervisors, digital empowerment, development of cutting-edge courses, and the linkage between in-class and out-of-class activities in the digital era. Yuan Renqing discussed the construction of college English courses and innovations in education and teaching using platforms such as virtual simulation. Yang Jingpeng provided a comprehensive introduction to the design and optimization of the school’s faculty evaluation system.

Sun Wenbo expressed gratitude for the thorough sharing by the School of Humanities at BUPT and briefly introduced the disciplinary and program structure, faculty composition, and reflections on program optimization and transformation at the School. He noted that both BUPT’s School of Humanities and their own School face similar developmental positioning and challenges, and that BUPT’s experiences in program optimization, digital-intelligent empowerment in foreign language teaching, and institutional evaluation mechanisms offer valuable insights for their School’s development.

The delegation members further engaged in in-depth exchanges with representatives from BUPT’s School of Humanities on the direction of college English reform, optimization of foreign language programs, digital-intelligent empowerment, and the development of minor language programs.

Following the discussions, the delegation toured the National Language Experiment Teaching Center at BUPT’s School of Humanities.

As both Beijing Jiaotong University and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications are "Double First-Class" universities with distinct industry characteristics, BUPT’s exploratory practices in digital humanities and the integration of humanities with engineering provide valuable references for the innovative development of foreign language disciplines and the continued excellence of college English teaching at BJTU. This exchange enhanced mutual understanding across various aspects and laid a solid foundation for future in-depth collaboration, complementary advantages, and synergistic development.
