The Second Party Branch of College Public English Holds Thematic Party Day Activity with the Theme of “Integrating Knowledge and Action in Educating People”. On May 26, 2023, Party member teachers from the the Second Party Branch of college public English of the School of Languages and Communication Studies carried out a thematic Party Day activity themed “Integrating Knowledge and Action in Educating People”, thoroughly studying the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and paying tribute to the 12th Party Congress of our university. Centering on the theme, a series of learning activities were organized successively, including a Party lecture delivered by comrade Wang Jianrong, secretary of the Branch, a sharing session by comrade Wang Hongying, secretary of the Party Committee of the School, and a visit to the university history museum by Party member teachers. First of all, focusing on the part of implementing the strategy of invigorating the country through science and education in the report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, comrade Wang Jianrong, secretary of the Branch, interpreted the important exposition that talent is the primary resource. Combined with the goal of significantly improving talent training capacity in the next five years proposed at the 12th Party Congress of the university, he analyzed the role of front-line foreign language teachers in cultivating talents and their disciplinary support capacity in the university’s efforts to build a training system for top-notch innovative talents from the perspectives of talent view and education view. Drawing on the construction experience of the university-level exemplary course for curriculum-based ideological and political education in college public English, comrade Wang Jianrong shared the exploration and reflections on effectively supporting the cultivation of high-quality talents with both virtue and ability featuring the university’s characteristics through curriculum teaching, taking specific teaching cases of the “Academic English Writing” course as examples. He suggested that guided by curriculum-based ideological and political education, we should carry out education and teaching work that combines implicit and explicit education, input and output, and in-class and after-class learning. In the second part of the activity, comrade Wang Hongying, secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Languages and Communication Studies, emphasized the significance of building “the most beautiful office” from the perspective of educating people through actions. Meanwhile, combining her personal experience, he gave a vivid lesson on office management to all Party member teachers. Secretary Wang pointed out that a clean and tidy office is conducive to fostering self-confidence, improving decision-making ability, cultivating a sense of order in work, and enhancing work efficiency in a happy atmosphere. He suggested that everyone divide the office into personal and public areas, sort out office documents and materials in a timely manner from large to small. Party member teachers should take the lead in setting an example, integrate knowledge and action, create a good working environment, and set a good example for students. After the meeting, comrade Wang Hongying went to the first college public English teaching and research room to personally demonstrate sorting and storage methods. Finally, all Party member teachers of the Branch went to the university history museum to visit and study, reviewing the history of Beijing Jiaotong University, strengthening the awareness of patriotism and honoring the university, and firming up the mission of cultivating talents for the Party and the country. At the entrance of the university history museum, student volunteers led everyone to read the origin of the university word by word. Entering the exhibition hall on the second floor of the university history museum, there are thirty old bricks sealed in a glass display cabinet in the center. The earth-yellow brick surfaces still retain the words “Beijing Kiln”, engraving the unremitting struggles and pursuits of people of Beijing Jiaotong University over a hundred years. With the detailed explanation of the docents, Party member teachers gained an in-depth understanding of various stages of the university’s development and important achievements, and a strong sense of pride welled up in their hearts. Especially when they came to the exhibition boards of the national-level college English teaching team and national-level teaching achievement awards, everyone stopped for a long time, recalling the hardships behind the achievements, and became more inspired. They said that they would learn from experience and continue to strive, keeping the motherland in mind and serving people. At the same time, they should learn from the innovative spirit of the university’s predecessors who dared to climb peaks and be pioneers, their dedication to research regardless of fame and fortune, and their spirit of nurturing the younger generation as ladder builders. We should integrate these precious spiritual wealth into the blood inheritance of Beijing Jiaotong University’s college English teachers. Towards the end of the activity, comrade Tian Yongfeng was moved and composed an acrostic poem as a summary of the activity: Iron constructions shine with shared aspirations, Roads stretch thousands of miles to write magnificent chapters. Devoted to the country, we express lofty ideals, steadfast and courageous; We vow to be pioneers. Cultivating talents, the legacy endures; Outstanding figures emerge to take on responsibilities. Hundreds of boats race forward to prosper China; Brilliant years illuminate the world.
