The lecture invited Tian Shuhe, a public opinion expert from the Internet Big Data Center of the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA). The lecture is presided over by Liu Kai, vice dean of the School of Languages and Communication Studies. Tian Shuhe began with an emphasis on the pivotal role of public opinion work. He focused on elaborating six core characteristics of public opinion, namely globality, publicity, concealment, spontaneity, diversity, and deviation, as well as how these characteristics influence the development and governance of public opinion. In the contemporary era, the public opinion environment has become increasingly complex, making it an urgent task of the times to understand the laws governing the occurrence and evolution of public opinion. Tian proposed that relevant authorities should improve information release mechanisms, advocate core socialist values, strengthen online information supervision, and guide the public to return to rationality. Additionally, from the perspective of advancing the modernization of the social governance system and governance capacity, the lecture comprehensively expounded on the characteristics of the current public opinion environment and the laws of its occurrence and evolution. This lecture is of great guiding significance for students of the School of Languages and Communication Studies to deepen their understanding of public opinion theories and strengthen their professional competencies.
