School of Languages and Communication Studies Advances Academic Instruction in an Orderly Manner.

2020-02-14 School of Languages and Communication Studies Advances Academic Instruction in an Orderly Manner.

In accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Education and the University, and guided by the principle of “ensuring uninterrupted learning despite the delayed start of the semester”, the School of Languages and Communication Studies has meticulously organized its teaching arrangements. Efforts have been made to ensure early planning, collective mobilization, diligent learning, focused mindset, collaborative efforts, and quality assurance. Currently, all preparatory work for the School’s online teaching is progressing in an orderly manner. Implementation plans for teaching were promptly formulated. To ensure classes commence as scheduled on February 24, the School promptly established 15 working groups based on undergraduate and graduate teaching units across departments and special course groups, building upon the existing teaching leadership team during the pandemic prevention period. These groups respectively developed implementation plans for undergraduate and graduate teaching. Active preparations for online teaching were carried out. Party member teachers were called on to serve as pioneers and role models in “teaching and educating”. Faculty members were mobilized to actively cooperate and fulfill their teaching and professional responsibilities. Online training sessions were conducted to explore effective approaches, methods, and modern technological tools for delivering online courses. The policies of “one-plan-per-course” for online teaching and “one-plan-per-student” for thesis supervision were rigorously enforced. Strictly control ideology and quality. The School explicitly requires comprehensive review of all teaching activities, materials, platforms, and MOOC courses conducted during the pandemic prevention and control period. To date, the School has completed 120 online course teaching plans, supervised and reviewed 22 MOOCs, and provided over 20 suggestions for improvement. Additionally, the School regulates the teaching platforms used by foreign instructors and assigns a Chinese teaching assistant to provide support and monitoring. Holistic Support for Teaching and Learning. The School offers a range of courses including public English courses for undergraduate and graduate students university-wide, public courses in minor languages, specialized oral proficiency classes, preparatory courses for ethnic minority students, as well as courses for its five undergraduate and four graduate programs. To ensure smooth commencement of classes, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and the Deputy Secretary for Student Affairs co-chaired an online teaching coordination meeting to communicate progress updates, share student data, and ensure every student is properly connected with their instructors. Class advisors conducted online meetings to provide academic and career guidance. Instructors and administrative teaching staff verified course enrollment and re-enrollment status for each student returning from a leave of absence.
