Academic Exchange|The 57th Foreign Language and Communication Scholars Forum of Beijing Jiaotong University–Wang Guoyan Delivers Lecture on Trends in Science and Data Visualization. Recently, the School of Languages and Communication Studies hosted a special lecture themed “Trends in Science and Data Visualization in the Intelligent Era.” The keynote speaker was Professor Wang Guoyan, a distinguished Professor at Soochow University. Combining specific cases, Professor Wang shared her practical experience in data visualization and expressed her insights into this field. Organized and presided over by Yan Qihong, a young teacher from the Department of Communication, the lecture was conducted in a hybrid online-offline format, attracting approximately 80 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the School of Languages and Communication Studies. Professor Wang Guoyan first pointed out that big data and artificial intelligence represent the trends of the times, and immersive visualization can more fully stimulate the audience’s senses. With the development of science and technology, human vision has been continuously extended and technology can convert other senses such as touching and hearing into visual forms. While bringing audiences a new perspective, this enables people to observe society beyond the limitations of the naked eye and inspires new ideas for artistic creation. During the lecture, Professor Wang shared numerous data visualization cases, emphasizing that speaking through data and facts is an important way to enhance credibility. She elaborated on scientific visualization in depth, highlighting its significant role in knowledge dissemination. She also recounted her experience participating in the cover design of top international journals (Nature, Science, Cell) and shared the research achievements of herself and her team in data visualization. These studies illustrate that visualization is not merely a tool for information presentation, but can also be analyzed as a research object in its own right. Through Professor Wang’s in-depth yet accessible explanation, the students benefited greatly and gained a deeper understanding of science and data visualization. Integrating theory with methods, the lecture thoroughly presented the relationship between science and art, serving as a model of interactive connection between academic research and professional practice.
