Recently, the Department Portuguese of the School of Languages and Communication Studies successfully held the 7th Portuguese Cultural Festival in Siyuan West Building. All teachers and students of the Portuguese major participated in the event, jointly studying and experiencing the most authentic Portuguese community culture. As an annual grand celebration of the Department of Portuguese, the Portuguese Cultural Festival aims to promote Portuguese-related culture in a joyful and pleasant atmosphere. It enhances students’ understanding of Portuguese culture through entertaining and educational activities while stimulating their interest in learning the Portuguese language. The opening program of this year’s cultural festival was the drama Amor Eterno. The script translation and stage design of the drama were completed by students admitted in 2021, majoring in Portuguese, with foreign teacher Marcos serving as the stage director and all students participating in the performance. Amor Eterno combines the love stories of ancient Chinese monarchs with those of ancient Portuguese monarchs, reflecting the students’ reflections on love and their desire to tell China’s stories well in the context of globalization. Following the wonderful drama performance was the Portuguese singing competition, where students from freshmen to seniors competed on the same stage. Hosted by two students, Beatriz (Ju Wenting) and Sílvia (Wu Wenjing), the competition adopted a bilingual hosting format, allowing students to immerse themselves in the Portuguese language atmosphere. Three students, Madalena (Wang Yibing), Arnaldo (Chen Yifei), and Leonor (Gao Ruixue), won awards for their outstanding performances. The final session was the tasting of Portuguese food and wine. Teachers and students made Portuguese delicacies together, which not only fostered friendship among students but also deepened their understanding of Portuguese food culture. Wine is Portugal’s most proud specialty. Foreign teacher Marcos introduced to the students the taste and drinking skills of different types of wine, enabling everyone to personally experience the wine culture. Having been held for seven sessions, the Portuguese Cultural Festival is the most traditional gathering festival the Department of Portuguese. This year’s event demonstrated the students’ spirit of confidence, self-improvement, and independence, as well as their enthusiasm for cross-cultural communication.
