School of Languages and Communication Studies Successfully Holds Alumni Homecoming Event for the Class of 2005

On the morning of October 19, 2019, the School of Languages and Communication Studies welcomed back alumni from the English major of the Class of 2005, who graduated ten years ago. Attending the event were Wang Hongying, Party Secretary of the School, Gao Yongfeng, Deputy Party Secretary, Geng Meifang, Secretary of the Youth League Committee, and the former class advisors of the English major Class of 2005.

The event began with a welcome speech by Party Secretary Wang Hongying, who warmly greeted the returning alumni and introduced the School’ s recent achievements in talent cultivation and scientific research. Deputy Secretary Gao Yongfeng provided an overview of the School’ s alumni engagement efforts, particularly the upcoming industry alumni associations for journalism and communication as well as foreign language education. He also extended an invitation to the alumni to participate in the School’s talent cultivation work as academic mentors for current students.

Subsequently, the former class advisors of the English major Class of 2005—Zhang Junxue, Wang Jianrong, Zhang Hong, and Ji Xiaobin—delivered speeches, reminiscing about their memories with the students from ten years ago and expressing sincere pride and delight in the alumni’ s accomplishments.

Representatives of current students conveyed their warm greetings to the senior alumni and presented them with cards filled with well-wishes and questions about academic and career development from younger students.

Alumni representatives from each class took turns speaking, expressing gratitude for the dedication of the School and their teachers. They answered questions raised by current students one by one and encouraged them to cherish their time and contribute to the nation with their knowledge.

The event was filled with warmth and emotion. One alumnus was moved to tears upon seeing her former class advisor, exclaiming, “Teacher, I missed you so much!”Geng Meifang, who served as the counselor for the Class of 2005, mentioned that they were her first group of students. She thanked them for their understanding and expressed hope that the Class of 2005 alumni would guide and set an example for younger students.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the School of Languages and Communication Studies, and the Class of 2005 was the first graduating cohort after the School’ s establishment. The alumni specially prepared a cake inscribed with the phrases “Tenth Anniversary” and “With You in the School of Languages and Communication Studies, the Future is Bright” to celebrate the School’s tenth birthday.

The School of Languages and Communication Studies embarks on a new journey after a decade! Moving forward, the School will continue to strengthen alumni engagement, actively build platforms, and leverage the power of alumni to collectively contribute to the School’ s development.
