Theoretical Learning Center Group of the Party Committee of the College of Languages and Communication Conducts Thematic Study and Discussion on the Spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s Important Speeches

On the afternoon of May 9, 2022, the Theoretical Learning Center Group of the Party Committee of the College of Languages and Communication held a thematic study to learn and discuss the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches. The meeting was held in a combination of “offline + online” and hosted by Wang Hongying, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College.

This study session organically integrated guided learning, full reading of the original texts, and exchange discussions. It actively gave play to the role of theoretical learning in arming the mind, guiding practice, and promoting work, promoted the close integration of learning with practical work. The session strived to enhance the ability to analyze and solve problems using scientific theories, and further transformed them into specific work ideas and policy measures.

 Vice Dean Hao Yunhui, and Youth Committee Member Lu Qiang respectively gave guided interpretations of the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s reply letter to the senior professors of the University of Science and Technology Beijing, and the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speech delivered during his inspection tour at Renmin University of China.

 On the basis of giving a guided interpretation of the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee on May 5th. Party Secretary Wanghongying conveyed the spirit of the university’s epidemic prevention and control work conference, and conducted research and made arrangements for the college’s epidemic prevention and control work.

 Led by Dean Geng Jiyong, all participants read through the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the opening ceremony of the Central Party School (National School of Administration) training class for young and middle-aged cadres in the spring of 2022.

All participants fully combined their practical work and conducted in-depth exchanges on their reflections and insights.

 Party Secretary Wang Hongying shared her insights from three aspects: enhancing political standing, clarifying mission and responsibilities, and fulfilling duties with concrete actions. Centering on the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, focusing on the original mission of cultivating talents for the Party and the country, she emphasized advancing the “14th Five-Year Plan” development of the university and the college with the spirit of seeing a blueprint through to the end, and thoroughly, fully, and comprehensively implementing the pandemic prevention and control guidelines and policies; She stressed effectively strengthening the construction of teachers’ ethics and style, making “combining strictness with care, nurturing oneself to benefit others, caring for students’ souls with personal charm, and enlightening students’ wisdom with academic attainments” the consensus and action of all teachers. She also urged guiding the young students of the entire college to inherit the red gene, making the belief of listening to the Party and following the Party a conscious spiritual pursuit.

 Dean Geng Jiyong believed that it is necessary to focus on the fundamental question of “for whom to cultivate talents, what talents to cultivate, and how to cultivate talents”. He noted that teachers of the college should strive to be unifiers of “scholarly teachers” and “moral teachers” who proficient in “imparting knowledge and solving doubts” and , and become “good teachers with four qualities”. He emphasized giving full play to the college’s disciplinary advantages, taking the general secretary’s statement— “give play to the unique role of philosophy and social sciences in integrating Chinese and foreign cultures and promoting cultural exchanges, disseminate Chinese voices, theories and ideas, help the world better understand China, and make positive contributions to building a community with a shared future for mankind” —as the guiding principle for the college’s work, and do a good job in international communication.

 Wen Yingchun, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice Dean, gave an overall overview and analysis of the progress in pandemic prevention and control work for undergraduate and graduate students. She also focused on exchanges centered on deepening employment work, pooling the maximum joint force for employment, expanding employment resources to fullest extent, and providing the most targeted employment support.

 Vice Dean Hao Yunhui shared ideas and measures focusing on four aspects: deepening and constructing the college English education and teaching system; enhancing the international literacy of all university students; further nurturing interdisciplinary talents with a sense of family and country, a global perspective, and professional competence; and improving the college’s internationalization level.

Vice Dean Liu Kai exchanged views on effectively strengthening top-level design, solidly sorting out the phased development and cultivation list of majors, courses, textbooks and teaching teams, promoting both “full coverage” and “demonstration zones” of ideological and political education, and building a talent training system that organically integrates value guidance, knowledge imparting and competence training.

 Wang Jianrong, Director of the Public English Teaching Department, believed that the essence of integrating ideological and political education into courses lies in organically combining value dissemination with knowledge imparting and ability enhancement, and to proceed in the same direction as ideological and political courses. More importantly, it requires focusing on  appropriate methods, with key efforts directed towards connecting with students’ hearts, enlightening their wisdom, nurturing their souls, and inspiring their fighting spirit.

 Lu Qiang, Director of the Student Affairs Office, believed that the college should further deepen the integrated construction of talent training. By combining in-class and extracurricular education, and promoting collaboration between the teachers and the ideological and political work teams. And educators should set an example through words and deeds. She emphasized that “the emotion of deep love for the motherland and sharing weal and woe with the people should be permeated throughout the entire academic process” and that such emotion should be “integrated into career pursuits” in the future.

 Liu Xinqi, Secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee, introduced the wonderful youthful footprints left by the college’s student volunteers at the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, as well as the recent situation where two graduates of the college voluntarily applied to participate in the Xizang aid program. He also exchanged views on organizing the live broadcast of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Youth League of China on the 10th, and elaborated on the next steps to further implement the spirit of the conference, meeting, uniting and leading young students of the entire college to “keep the Party’s teachings in mind and aspire to national rejuvenation”.
