Our University Students Conduct Field Exchange at UN Headquarters in Vienna

From February 7 to 18, 2025, the "New Youth: Field Visit to the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna Program," organized by the China Education Association for International Exchange, was held in Vienna, Austria. Through selection by our university's International Competence English Program, undergraduate student Zhao Zhirui was invited to participate in this overseas exchange activity. Together with over 30 students from various institutions across the country, Zhao engaged in an in-depth experience of international organizations, showcasing the image of Chinese youth, amplifying China's voice, and enhancing international competence.

The Field Visit Program to the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna is an official diplomatic activity recognized by international organizations. Through collaboration with international organizations, this program provides students with hands-on opportunities to participate in projects related to the United Nations and other international bodies. Under the guidance of high-level officials from these organizations, students will engage in on-site visits, exchanges, and intensive immersive training, gaining in-depth insights into the operational mechanisms of the United Nations and international organizations, as well as their global roles.

Through field visits, roundtable discussions, seminars, lectures, on-site exchanges, workshops, research activities, and simulations, student Zhao Zhirui gained in-depth exposure to representative international organizations such as the United Nations and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). This immersive experience provided deeper understanding of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the governance frameworks of international organizations, laying foundational awareness and building capabilities for exploring future career paths requiring international competence.

Our university continuously enhances the cultivation of international competence within talent development, anchored by college English instruction. Through an integrated model of teaching and practice, we contribute to nurturing globally competent talents who are "well-versed in national policies, understand China's national conditions, possess a global perspective, demonstrate proficiency in foreign languages, and are knowledgeable about international rules." This overseas field exchange represents a valuable experiment in combining "in-class and out-of-class, domestic and international" approaches to foster internationally competent talents. It holds significant importance for students in enhancing global awareness, deepening cross-cultural understanding, strengthening international communication skills, and building comprehensive global competence.
