School of Foreign Languages, China University of Petroleum (East China) Visits School of Languages and Communication Studies

On the morning of October 21, 2025, Cheng Lulu, Chair of the Department of English for Academic Purposes, Hu Caixia, Party Secretary of the Department, and Tang Dong, Associate Chair of the Department of English Language and Literature from the School of Foreign Languages at China University of Petroleum (East China), visited the School of Languages and Communication Studies for an exchange and discussion. The meeting was attended by Fan Shucheng, Director of the Experimental Center and Party Branch Secretary, Gao Ge, Deputy Director of the Department of English Language Teaching, and Wang Xiaoyi, Director of the Teaching Affairs Office.

Wang Xiaoyi first extended a warm welcome to the delegation on behalf of the School. Cheng Lulu then provided a detailed introduction to the talent cultivation and organizational structure of the School of Foreign Languages at China University of Petroleum (East China). She expressed strong interest in the organization and operation model of the Academic English Writing Center, the academic English curriculum and teaching, and the faculty development and service system at the School, hoping to gain insights to optimize similar initiatives at her own School.

During the exchange session, Fan Shucheng emphasized the development of the Academic English Writing Center Platform. He provided an in-depth technical analysis of the Platform's architecture and functions, highlighting its continuous updates and optimizations. The Platform now features a weekly appointment system, matches students or teams with tutors, and offers English thesis counselling services to better meet the needs of students and faculty. Fan also introduced the "BJTU AI English Learning" system. As an innovative platform that consolidates public English teaching resources, it provides targeted tutoring to help students enhance their English proficiency. Gao Ge elaborated on the comprehensive process of public English teaching at our university. This encompasses the English placement test for incoming students, the course structure comprising both foundational and advanced modules, and the specialized English curriculum for students of a higher level. This tiered teaching model effectively meets the diverse English learning needs of students at different levels, enhancing both teaching efficiency and quality.

Following the meeting, Fan Shucheng led the delegation on a tour of the Language Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center. They visited the self-recording classroom for faculty and the convergence media lab. In the lab, Fan provided a detailed demonstration of the system's operational interface and various functions, giving the visitors a concrete understanding of the School's teaching facilities and technological applications.

Going forward, the two sides will strengthen cooperation in the field of public English teaching. Through resource sharing and experience exchange, the two sides aim to jointly enhance the quality of English teaching and contribute to cultivating more high-quality talents with international competence and cross-cultural communication skills.
