In the Fight Against the Epidemic, I Stand with You—Students of the School of Languages and Communication Studies in Action.

2020-02-25 In the Fight Against the Epidemic, I Stand with YouStudents of the School of Languages and Communication Studies in Action.

In the early spring of the Gengzi year, the COVID-19 epidemic touched the hearts of every student. Facing the severe situation, students of the School of Languages and Communication Studies actively engaged in prevention and control efforts. Whether as tutoring volunteers, research volunteers, or through sending text-message blessings, they contributed in various forms, radiating warmth and energy to support the fight against the epidemic and cheer for Wuhan. The haze will eventually lift, and sunlight will surely return. In this battle against the epidemic, we stand with you. With Me on the Road Through the Pandemic, Love Never Ceases. The “Fighting the Epidemic” Public Tutoring Program is a charitable initiative launched by the Yiluxing Campus Public Service Club of Beijing Jiaotong University. It aims to provide free online tutoring and Q&A services for the children of frontline epidemic prevention workers in primary and secondary schools. Shortly after the program was introduced, Liang Xinyu promptly signed up to become a volunteer online tutor. She was paired with a third-grade student whose parent is a volunteer in community committee epidemic prevention work, leaving the child without regular guidance for math homework. After communicating with the parent to understand the situation, Xinyu prepared relevant teaching materials before the session to support her Q&A. Online tutoring required a phone stand, but due to the pandemic, it was inconvenient to go out and purchase one. As a result, she had to hold her phone in one hand while looking at the computer to guide the child. During the sessions, the child was both earnest and polite, saying “thank you, teacher” after each problem was explained, which deeply warmed Xinyu’s heart. She said, “As a university student in the new era, I have also been closely following the epidemic and wanted to do what I can to contribute my part. Online tutoring has given me the opportunity to play a role, and I will persist in this effort, joining everyone in providing help to every child in need.” Currently, the team of online tutors continues to grow. May the spirit of volunteer service ripple outward, and may we soon welcome the blossoming of spring and triumph over the pandemic! Stay True to the Original Aspiration, Party Members at the Forefront. Comrade Wang Gang, an undergraduate student from the First Party Branch of the School of Languages and Communication Studies, has been actively playing a pioneering and exemplary role by voluntarily participating in the fight against the epidemic through support efforts. “During this period, I have been staying at home, following the development of the epidemic online. Although I cannot go to the front line to assist, nor do I have the opportunity to participate in community work, I still hope to contribute in some way,” said Wang Gang. On February 7, he joined the “Thunder and Fire Volunteers” online volunteer team, a research-oriented volunteer group spontaneously formed by caring netizens at home and abroad during the epidemic. The team focuses on two main areas: “rescue” (primarily providing information support for disaster relief and epidemic prevention) and “research” (compiling in-depth reports on public opinion related to the epidemic to serve as references for the government, enterprises, media, and researchers both domestically and internationally). Leveraging his academic background and available time and energy, Wang Gang chose to focus on the “Thunder and Fire Research” aspect, participating in policy analysis and compilation, data analysis of help information, summarization of human-centered cases in epidemic-related public opinion, and research on international English media coverage. Regarding his volunteer work, Wang Gang remarked, “Providing help to others is a responsibility. I hope to contribute my modest effort to ending this epidemic. The collective strength of the team has shown me the passionate dedication of the younger generation to the world’s concerns, and this spirit has been truly heartening.” Brief Is the Paper, Yet Deep the Feelings; “Language” Accompanying You. As the epidemic continues to spread, people across the nation are closely following its developments. In this war without smoke, students of the School of Languages and Communication Studies have kept their fellow compatriots in Hubei close to their hearts! In response to the severe situation of the fight against the epidemic, Party members from the First Undergraduate Party Branch of the school sent blessings to students in Hubei via text messages. Meanwhile, students of Class 1901 in the Spanish major created an encouraging video, with all 27 members writing down heartfelt wishes to cheer for Hubei. We firmly believe that under the correct leadership of the Party Central Committee and through the joint efforts of people nationwide, we will surely overcome this epidemic! Love and hope spread faster than the virus. Stay strong! When spring arrives and flowers bloom, we will reunite in the Red Orchard.
