National Education Lecture by President Wang Jiaqiong for Overseas Chinese Students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan

On the afternoon of June 29th, 2021, Wang Jiaqiong, President of Beijing Jiaotong University, attended the lecture on national conditions education, which was one of the "Learning from history; Uniting knowledge and action" series activities of national conditions education for students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. With the theme of "History of Reform and Opening-up", President Wang spread national conditions education to overseas Chinese students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and had discussions and exchanges with students.

Wang Jiaqiong gave a simple lecture on the historical conditions, glorious course, great achievements and successful experiences of reform and opening up, and deeply analyzed the historical background and far-reaching significance of the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. He pointed out that the most precious ideological wealth brought by the history of reform and opening up is emancipating the mind, seeking truth from facts and being brave in innovation. Therefore, he hoped that teachers and students, especially students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, can "know how and why" in the process of studying the national conditions, so as to deeply and objectively understand the historical process of national economic and social development.

After listening carefully to the exchanges and speeches of students, President Wang responded to the study and life issues that students was concerned about one by one, and gave guidance on professional knowledge learning and career development planning. He expected students to increase exchanges, learn from each other, strive to improve their skills and become useful talents for the society and country.

In this lecture, students exchanged and shared their own learning and growth experiences. For instance, Huang Qun Hao, a Grade-2019 student from Taiwan Province at the School of Mechanical, Electrical and Control Engineering, shared his  experiences and views on academic and extracurricular activities; Weng Huilin, an Grade-2018 student from Hong Kong at the School of Economics and Management, expressed his feelings of watching the awarding ceremony of the July 1 Medal, and described the similarities and differences between Hong Kong and mainland universities in volunteer service and student career planning education; Du Haiwei, a Grade-2020 overseas Chinese student from Singapore, showed his experience of studying and living in Beijing Jiaotong University and the exchange and integration of different cultures in Beijing.
