SLCS visits UM
  On September 15th, representative group from SLCS visited the University of Minho in Portugal under the direction of Yang Ruodong, the vice dean of SLCS.
  Mr. Rui Castro, the vice president of UM warmly received the representative group. He said that President Antonio Cunha has signed the contract with president of Beijing Jiaotong University about the cooperative communication between the two universities and that UM attaches great importance to the revisit from BJTU and hopes that the communication between the two universities could be enhanced and that cooperation activities could be carried forward in the near future.
  Later, the group visited the Confucius Institute in UM and communicated with professors there. The institute’s dean, vice Professor Sun Lin introduced its setting and operation. Yang Ruodong said that our university has set up two Confucius Institutes with Hoge school Groep-T Leuven in Belgium and Texas Southern University in America respectively and the third one is under preparation. He also expressed his wishes to enhance the cooperative relationship with UM’s Confucius Institute and the sincerity to communicate the experience on the new institute’s construction and foreigners’ Chinese learning.
  In the afternoon, Mr. Orlando Grossegesse, Ms. Micaela Ramon, Sun Lam, Pilar Barbosa along with the group held a long meeting for three hours on the host of “Portuguese Major 3+1 Dual Degree Project”. They exchanged ideas on the training scheme, teaching faculty, students’ living standards in Portugal and faculty on preparatory committee. They reached eventual consistency and laid solid foundation for the official sign of cooperative agreement.
  After the meeting, representatives from BJTU and CI reported to Mr. Rui Castro who gave precious comments and suggestions on the project and expressed his best wishes for the project.
  Portuguese language teacher Wang Chengxu and Spanish language teacher Liu Ying were also among the group members.
