2025 Portuguese Dubbing Competition Concludes

On April 23, 2025, the Portuguese Dubbing Competition, hosted by Beijing Jiaotong University and co-organized by Beijing Foreign Studies University, was held in Room 610, Siyuan West Building at Beijing Jiaotong University. The event brought together six teams from both universities, who interpreted classic film and television clips through the distinctive art of dubbing, showcasing the charm and vitality of the Portuguese language while creating a platform for in-depth exchange between students from both institutions.



The competition featured a distinguished panel of judges, including Professor Lauro Meller and Professor Daniel Basílio from Beijing Foreign Studies University, along with Professor Marcos Rijo Mendes and Professor Mariana Canuto from Beijing Jiaotong University. They evaluated the participants' performances based on multiple criteria, including language accuracy, emotional expression, and creative presentation.

At the event, six teams with distinct styles took the stage in turn. "People as Masters Team" kicked off the competition with a clip from "Young Sheldon", using nuanced voice acting to convey the humor and warmth of the characters. "Fire Kids Dictation Squad" vividly brought the childlike fun of "Smart Dodging" to life through Portuguese, offering a fresh experience for the audience. The "Dubbing Group" recreated the fantasy and passion of the animal world using a segment from "Zootopia", showcasing exceptional dubbing skills. "Andes Curry" conveyed the confusion and warmth of growing up through their performance of "Turning Red". "Baby and Dog Team" infused "The Boss Baby" with a unique Portuguese flair, delivering distinctive joy. "Grupo Forte" interpreted the Chinese anime "Yeluoli" in Portuguese, captivating the audience. The venue was filled with continuous applause and a lively atmosphere.



After intense competition, "Andes Curry Team" won the first prize. "Fire Kids Dictation Squad", "Baby and Dog Team", and "Grupo Forte" were awarded the second prize. "People as Masters Team" and "Dubbing Group" received the third prize. The winning teams expressed that the competition was not only an exercise in skills but also a valuable opportunity to learn from their peers, deepening their understanding of Portuguese-speaking cultures.
