Introduction to Major

The School of Languages and Communication Studies sets up two master's degree programs in Foreign Language and Literature and Journalism and communication,and one professional masters degree program named as Master of Translation and Interpreting.

Introduction to the masters degree program in Foreign Language and Literature

The degree program conforms to the demand for foreign language talents in China in the new century and the development trend of the subject, and is committed to cultivating high-level talents with profound subject quality and solid language expertise, who not only master the basic theories and frontier knowledge of the subject, but also have strong language application ability.

Graduates of this major have the ability to engage in teaching, scientific research, foreign affairs, management and other jobs related to this discipline in universities, scientific research institutions, state agencies, enterprises and public institutions, and international and multinational organizations.

The curriculum is designed to pay equal attention to academic ability and professional practice ability, while improving the interdisciplinary curriculum system by utilizing the university's dominant discipline resources. The curriculum is set according to the research direction, and consists of basic courses, specialized courses and elective courses, with a total of more than 50 courses.

 The degree program has four research directions: Theoretical Linguistics Study, Translation and Translation History Study,Studies of English and American Literature and Applied Linguistics Study.

Introduction to the masters degree program in Journalism and communication

This program will seize the demand and development opportunities for communication professionals in China, and focus on training students to master the basic theories and professional knowledge of this major, with the sense of innovation and team spirit, profound cultural literacy in communication, outstanding media practice ability, and the ability to engage in communication research and teaching in colleges and universities. Also they can be high-level compound talents in the related professional and foreign-related fields.

The main courses include communication theory, communication research methods, media industry study, cultural industry study, media policies and regulations, special research on news reports, special research on radio and television graph, etc.

Graduates of this major can conduct special research or engage in practical work in the field of communication studies, with the ability to extend and broaden their knowledge and to work creatively.

This major has two research directions: Theoretical Communication and Applied Communication.

Introduction to the masters degree program in Translation and Interpreting

This degree program is committed to comprehensively improving students' language translation ability, focusing on cultivating their practical skills in technical translation and their ability in foreign economic cooperation and communication. In the cultivation process, it adheres to the principle of combining three levels of course teaching, internship practice, and reading and translation programs, and and comprehensively consolidates students' professional abilities through various forms such as seminars, simulations, and joint training with internship bases.

This degree program makes full use of the teaching and research advantages of the university in the transportation industry and follows the path of combining the training of Master of Translation and Interpreting with the above-mentioned specialties, so that the students can be competent for advanced translation work in different professional fields, especially in the field of high-speed railway, so as to meet the demand for such translation talents in the overseas development strategy of China railway.

The training direction of MTI mainly focus on translation. The main curriculum system includes Introduction to Translation, Basic Translation, Literary Translation, Introduction to Railway, Translation of Railway Technical Documents, Trade and Economic Translation, Legal Translation, Computer-Aided Translation and other courses.
